Coalition for Food Safety Petition to Ammend the Safe Handling Statement

Food safety is front and center. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) heralded this change in foods. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations also has its best practices for meat and poultry.  Together they both regulate our food supply.


Recently The Food Safety Coalition, began petitioning changes be made to meat and poultry safe handling instructions on labels.


Even if you don’t have meat and poultry in your products.


As food producers, we should ask ourselves:


  • How can I make improve improve food safety?
  • Can I improve my labeling instructions?
  • Can I make it easier for the consumer to understand cooking instructions?


Small labeling changes can positively impact the relationship we have with the consumers using our food products.
